Design had always played a huge part in our way of living from how it affects our lifestyle to how it had made our life easier. Intrigued by how Interior Design could literally affect our way of living through means of interaction that one could have while being in the space, I decided to go for the Diploma in Interior Design offered by Singapore Polytechnic. It has been a habit for me to be flipping through the various kinds of design magazines – graphic, fashion or interior and not forgetting about the various cafes that I have visited, allowing me to draw inspirations from the different interesting interior styles.

 

Throughout my diploma studies, I have gained many skills in different areas of art and design. Through design thinking, I could get my inspiration and then slowly develop it into a structure and then the final design. I have also learnt how to use different material to make models which allows me to understand more about the different characteristic of different materials. At the same time we do pick up our software skills such as 3dmax, Rhino, AutoCAD, Photoshop, and illustrator. With the skills of all these software, we could give a better presentation of my design.

 

Work

I started work with an interior design agency in Singapore after graduted from SP, applying my design skills and knowledge on the agency’s projects - planning interior spaces for commercial and residential spaces. I discovered that communication and translation skills are just as essential to convey our ideas clearly to the clients, and it is never a solo project because we are constantly working along with our clients, making sure that our proposal fits their requirements and budgets. I try my best to make sure that every design proposal is customized and catered for my client’s way of living as such they will then be able to be both physically and emotionally engaged with their ideal space, bring meaning and characteristics into it making it into a place that holds them comfortably.

 

Heriot-Watt University (Edinburgh,UK)

After one year of working in interior design firm. I went to further study interior design at Herior-watt University UK. I believe that i will be able to further push my limits in terms of knowledge and design thinking in Interior Design. As such, I would be able to achieve of my goal of being an outstanding interior designer who is able to work on various kinds of projects, allowing my work to bring both people and spaces together through interactions with my creative ideas. I hope that by furthering my studies in the field of Interior Design, I would be able to put my knowledge and skills in Interior Design to serve people and to give meanings to more spaces. With my aspiration to be an outstanding interior designer, I believe I would be able to strive and give my utmost best in completing the degree course in Interior Design.
